Improper watering of an orchid leads to the cessation of flowering, rotting and death of the plant.
The most commonly grown variety of orchid in apartments is phalaenopsis, highly valued for its relative ease of care and abundant flowering. In nature, these plants are epiphytes, living on trees and not on the ground. Their aerial roots are able to absorb moisture present in the air. They grow spontaneously in warm, moist ecosystems, much better than in our homes. This means that we are faced with the task of recreating these conditions as much as possible. Temperature is often not a big problem, but proper water supply can be a little tricky to figure out, especially for a beginner. So, a cunning and easy way has become popular online - use ice cubes as watering once a week. An orchid's water needs vary, as with all plants, depending on ambient temperature, air humidity, pot and root size, as well as variety and flowering time.
