today there is a whole cohort of artists who do not present themselves to the general public, who work for their particular circle of listeners and play the music they want, without taking into account the needs of the masses. Again, this music from the point of view of the genre can be absolutely anything, but there is a certain group of people who are "isolated from mass culture", dry up and play such music.. Those who were called underground for their music used to be "tied up by cops", but today there is no such thing, so there can't be an underground either. It should be noted that this position is vulnerable to criticism. And their "underground" were precisely those who did not want or could not break into the "mass culture" and earn a living with their creativity. However, even Western punks and metalheads of some subgenres became mainstream, but the underground still remained.
